Unarmed

The Graham Kapowsin High School Unarmed drill unit consists of a competitive drill and ceremony team, made up of 20 - 25 cadets. These cadets spend their mornings before school Tues-Fri honing their skills in 3 distinct categories to perform at drill meets within the Puget Sound Division, with the end goal of competing at the Northwest Drill and Rifle Conference Regional meet.

These 3 distinct categories are:

Regulation

The team is marched as a formation following cadence and executing commands called by the commander. The team formation is scored based on clean execution of movements, alignment, synchronization, etc.

Inspection

This is where military personnel formally inspect the team and ask cadets questions about general military knowledge, chain of command, and current world events based on a study guide.

Exhibition

The team performs a creative yet military oriented 4-6 minute drill routine, planned by that year’s commander. It still utilizes basic marching movements, however, implementing expressions such as hand movements called beats, stomps, and spins. Making each routine unique and
specific to each school. The team is scored based on originality, variety of movements, precision, etc.
